Listening in

Written by Nikki-ann on Sunday, 5 July , 2009 at 10:18 pm

When you’re sat on a train, with no reading material to hand, it’s hard not to listen into other people’s conversations. On the train down to London on Friday, a little old lady sat at the table opposite mine…

“You shall get your reward in Heaven, but unfortunately, I won’t be there. I shall be stoking the fires!” said the little old lady sat in seat 19F to the kind gentleman who moved her case for her.

Stoking the fires? I’m not a religious person, but I wonder what she’s done to deserve to be stoking the fires of Hell rather than being in the comfort of Heaven!

The little old lady (who was somewhere in her 80’s) started talking to the woman next to her and they seemed to have several things in common, despite never meeting before. Over the course of the journey, the little old lady told her life story and again mentioned she’d been a bit naughty, but not once gave away why she wouldn’t be let through the pearly gates. She seemed so sweet, too!

I’ll share more about my trip tomorrow (photos coming too!).

weird that someone would think ( or at least say) that and not search themselves and all the relevant sources to see if there was a way to avoid such a terrible destiny

I guess one never knows about someone’s life by appearances. At least she admits she did wrong and didn’t have the “world is out to get me attitude and it’s everyone else’s fault” attitude.

I hope you had a great time in London and enjoyed the concert! :-)

Well some people are like that. It’s weird but sometimes they need a good persuasion to think that despite everything everyone is worth something.

Classic. I spend each day hoping that the trains will render up something to write about. I reckon she was a bank robber.
