Thematic Photographic – Winter

Written by Nikki-ann on Thursday, 26 February , 2009 at 8:31 pm

It’s starting to look a bit like spring here in Mid Wales, but Thematic Photographic’s theme this week is Winter. You can play as often as you like (e.g. more than 1 photo a week, if you wish) and everyone is welcome… Just hop on over to Carmi’s and join in with the fun!

Frosty Gate Handle

Frosty Gate Handle

I spotted this frosty field gate handle while out on a walk on New Year’s Day. It was the frosty spikes on it which attracted my attention. I don’t think anyone would have wanted to open that gate with bare hands that winter day!

Thematic Photographic – Busted

Clun Castle

Clun Castle

I thought Clun Castle would fit nicely into this week’s theme. There’s a little more to Clun Castle than this, but not much more! Mind you, it was built around the 13th century, so even the bit that’s left has withstood a great length of time.

Clun is a village situated in Shropshire (England) and stands a few miles from the Welsh border. Some of my ancestors lived & worked in/near Clun and one or two are buried there too.

Signs of Spring

Crocus

Seen on my walk today.

Our garden may not have sprung any flowers do far this year, but I spotted this Crocus while out on my walk today. It’s beautiful, don’t you think? There was also an abundance of snowdrops at the roadside and in the woods. No daffodils though, I’ve only seen them in the shops!

Us or Them!

Written by Nikki-ann on Sunday, 22 February , 2009 at 12:23 pm

It turns out my Watching the Sky post has given me a problem. You see, I thought it would make the ideal shot for Skywatch Friday, Looking at the Sky on Friday and Written Inc’s Thematic Photographic – Up. However, it seems that Skywatch Friday have taken issue (via email) with me using the same post for them and for Looking at the Sky on Friday as they don’t want to be associated.

To give you a bit of background, Looking at the Sky on Friday was set up after bloggers took issue with Skywatch Friday’s rules, but I didn’t see that as being a problem with me participating in both memes. Although, looking back at Skywatch Friday’s rules today, I see a note saying their meme shouldn’t be combined with other memes – I hadn’t noticed that before.

I’ve basically been told that I should participate in one or the other, but not both at the same time. Well, just who’s blog is this? I don’t like being told to choose between 2 things… Friends know that when I have been asked to choose between friends in the past, I refused and it usually backfires on the person that asked me to choose.

I’m not going to make two posts on the same day on the same subject just to satisfy people. So in the light of that, I don’t think I’ll be participating in Skywatch Friday again. It’s a shame, because, aside from the politics, it’s a great meme and I’ve enjoyed participating.
