Does this make sense to you?

Church Stretton Car Park Ticket Machine (Operated by Shropshire Council)
Up to 1 hour – £0.50
Up to 2 hours – £1.10
Up to 4 hours – £2.40
Up to 10 hours – £3.60
If you pay for up to 4 hours in one go it would cost you 40 pence more than it would if you paid for those 4 hours separately! So it works out cheaper to pay for a new parking ticket every hour than it does to pay for more than 1 hour in one go.
How does that make sense?!
I don’t live in Shropshire myself, but I’ll be heading back over the border tomorrow and will see if another car park also has odd parking charges.
Comments welcome (especially from Shropshire Council!)

I don not expect the council could comment – it would require too much though on their part!

I sometimes wonder who the people are who figure these things out. Small brains, I guess! (lol)

Hi Nikki-ann,
We have one of those weird and wonderful charging systems here in Frome, the person resposible must have moved house and jobs and set up home in Shropshire!!!
I’m sure that hubbie thought I was going mad when I tried to explain it to him, so the other day I let him go for the ticket when we parked, then he just got annoyed about being ripped off!!
Is it any wonder that all the other local services are shot to pieces, if this is the sort of job training they are getting???

The same used to be true in Stratford. The problem was you couldn’t really run out of the theatre in the middle of a performance in order to shove some more money in the wretched machine.

This is funny… and I wonder if there is any real logic. One way to look at it though could be that they don’t want you to stay too long…. so staying for only one hour is cheaper (per hour) than 2, or 3, or 4… but it doesn’t work for 10 hours…. Probably plain silly! Well spotted!

It probably relies on people only looking at the line they need. It’s like the machines around our way that don’t give change, so a 30p ticket becomes 50p.
Of course the central London ones were getting daft with £4 per hour which could be paid in 20p pieces. I use the phone payment nowadays.
