I came across Hush, Hush while browsing book blogs. Several blogs had reviewed the book, some good reviews, some bad reviews, but I was intrigued and so picked up the book while in Waterstones one day.
Hush, Hush follows the story of Nora and Patch. Nora wasn’t interested in romance, but then Patch came along and despite instinctively not liking him, there was something about him that seemed to get inside her. He’s everywhere she is and after several terrifying incidents that can’t be explained, Nora isn’t sure she can trust him (not helped by her friend Vee). He seems to know everything about her, but she knows nothing about him and he’s not answering her questions. Little does she know that she’s in the middle of something much bigger than she could ever imagine and her life hangs in the balance.
When I first started reading Hush, Hush, it took me a while to get into it and I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy it. However, the further I got into the book the more I enjoyed it. There are quite a few twists and turns in the story. Somebody is obviously out for Nora and the number of suspects seems to grow throughout the book. One moment you’re thinking it’s this person, the next you’re thinking it’s somebody else.
I found Nora to be a bit on the naive side, but then when mind games are involved it’s difficult to tell if that’s how she normally is or if she’s being pushed to make stupid decisions. That and she’s a teenager and human (e.g. not perfect!).
Patch is one of those characters you shouldn’t like because he’s a bad boy… but then you do find yourself liking him for some reason (maybe it is that bad boy image), though he is creepy in parts!
Nora’s best friend Vee got on my nerves and I’d have dropped her if she was my friend. She constantly exaggerated things and was over the top, but then I guess we all have friends like that.
I’m not sure if the cover and the prologue give something away (but then without them you’d be a fair way through the book before you found out it was about angels, fallen angels to be exact). However, I still enjoyed the book in the end. I enjoyed it enough to want to read the next book, Crescendo (Helped by the fact that there’s a sample chapter of Crescendo at the end of Hush, Hush… This seems to be a common thing these days) and I’m looking forward to reading it.
I’m glad I read Hush, Hush myself and made up my own mind. Despite any faults, I’d certainly recommend giving it a go.

I was unaware of this NEW trend—a Chapter of the next book at the end of the book you are reading….A good idea, I guess…Like “Stay Tuned For Scenes From Next Week’s Episode….”…..
Sounds like an interesting book, though I am not someone that likes to read about a person being in jeppardy possibly from many people….

I must confess that I’d pick this up as I’m quite drawn to the cover, however, I don’t think I’d buy it as there seems to be so many of these books around, all of them with very similar stories (I can’t help but think of Fallen.)Still, never say never as I may well find myself reading it at some time or other as my friends daugher loves the book.

I liked this book too and I need to find time to read the sequel already! It’s one of those books that has quite a few flaws, but somehow you can’t help but like it and be intrigued. Patch was pretty creepy though and that chick is so ridiculous for continuing to be alone with him even though her creep factor was off the charts. Just because a guy is cute does not make him a “good” guy.

I LOVED the cover of this book. I think it’s one of the best covers I have seen in a long time. For me it was the highlight of the book, as I found the novel a little disappointing. Nora’s character especially gets on my nerves and I find her reactions totally unrealistic. Plus, I have read too many books now with hopeless female protagonists… why do they have to be so naive and so passive? Having said that I liked the characters of Patch, and – unlike you – Nora’s bet friend, whom I found very real and funny (one track minded). Let us know what you think of the sequel.
